Can a menstrual cup be too big?

menstrual cup

A vagina is very flexible. Also, the vagina moves with what you put in it. When you insert a menstrual cup fold the cup in half, it is no larger than a tampon. Still, women experience a mensturation cup that is too large as uncomfortable.

What size menstrual cup do I need?

If you find it difficult to insert something into your vagina, chances are you will find a smaller menstrual cup more comfortable. If you have no problems with that, then a large menstrual cup will soon be suitable for you.

What sizes are there menstrual cups?

Of the Beppy Cup we only have the intermediate size S/M, but no worries this size is common for most women. There are other cup brands that do have different sizes. With most brands you have the choice of two different sizes. Namely size S and size L.

The difference between the Beppy Cup and regular cups is that with the Beppy Cup you don’t have to deal with a stem. You have a handy removable loop instead of the stalk which sometimes bothers traditional cup users.

The Beppy Cup has a diameter of 4.5 cm at the top, the diameter at the bottom is 3.5 cm and the total length of the cup is 6 cm including the removable loop of 1.5 cm. The Beppy Cup has a capacity of 25 ml (up to the anti-leak flap) – 30 ml (below the hole). Despite being similar to the intermediate size S/M, the Beppy Cup has a capacity of almost an L size cup. This is due to the innovative design of the cup. This is because the Beppy Cup is wider at the bottom. This allows more menstrual fluid to be collected.

Did you know that a woman loses an average of 20 to 80 ml of blood during the entire menstrual period. When a woman loses more than 120 ml of blood, it is called heavy blood loss.

A menstrual cup, like other menstrual products, can be worn for 8 hours at a time. Although some brands say that you can keep a cup in for 12 hours, this is not wise. Scientific research has shown that there is an increased risk of T.S.S. when wearing a cup too long. At Beppy we always sell 2 cups, because then you always have a clean cup with you.

While inserting the cup it is important that you are completely relaxed. If you are tense then your pelvic floor muscles contract and then inserting a cup becomes very difficult. So be relaxed and take a comfortable position, squatting, or on the toilet or with one leg up, and insert the cup as deeply as possible. After inserting the cup, you can insert it deeper by pressing on the cup with your thumb.

You can use different folds. The most used fold with the Beppy Cup is the U or the C fold.

You what the cup is well placed when the bottom of the cup feels flat (no big bumps or dents). You can feel this with your finger. Also, you should not feel the cup when you have inserted it correctly. If the cup is not placed correctly, you should check whether the cup is placed correctly. The cup should not hurt either. When the cup hurts, it is wise to remove the cup immediately.

When you want to empty the cup, it is sensible to first break the vacuum. You can do this by gently pressing on the side of the cup. When you have done this you can then gently pull the cup downwards thanks to the handy removal loop.
