No, this is not recommended. Ordinary hand soap, shower gel or antibacterial soap often contains perfumes, dyes and harsh ingredients that can damage the cup’s silicone and disrupt the vaginal pH. Instead, use our mild, fragrance-free and pH-neutral Beppy Neutral Cup Soap, specially developed for safe cleaning of your menstrual cup.

Ideally, you should sterilize your menstrual cup before the first time you use it as well as after each time you empty it. This helps ensure that your cup is truly clean and bacteria-free for the next time you use it. Safety first!

You first rinse your menstrual cup with water. Then apply 1-2 pumps of Beppy Neutral Cup Soap and gently rub the cup clean, including along the edges and air holes. Rinse well with water until all soap is gone and let the cup air dry.

Fill the water reservoir to the indicated rim. Place your menstrual cup in the sterilizer. Press the button and wait 6-8 minutes for disinfection to complete. The device automatically stops when the water has evaporated. Let it cool thoroughly before opening the lid.

After some time, limescale can form in the appliance because tap water contains calcium and magnesium minerals. Especially when boiling or heating tap water, limescale forms. This is not dangerous and can be removed by following these steps:

Step 1. Fill the Beppy Steam+Sterilizer with a mixture of water and lemon juice or vinegar so that all the lime is under the mixture.
Step 2. Turn on your Beppy Steam+Sterilizer and boil for 8 minutes. If necessary, repeat steps 1 and 2 again.
Step 3. When you see that the Beppy Steam+Sterilizer is limescale-free, rinse it out with clean water.
